After the first day of the Spanish F1 Grand Prix weekend, the mood was high in the Aston Martin garage. The team feels that there is progress and drivers Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll share this feeling. Vettel closed the second training session on Friday after 31 laps with P8.
The German’s team-mate, Canadian Stroll struggled with balance and finished his last session of the day in P13. Still, he hopes for improvement in the run-up to Saturday afternoon’s qualifying. Caution was also advised as the team is somewhat limited with the number of spare parts.

Sebastian Vettel: “It feels like we’re going in the right direction, but we have to remember that this is the first day we’re driving this car. You can’t make many comparisons to pre-season testing because the weather and track conditions are so different, so there is still a lot to learn and understand. Still, it’s positive to finish in the top 10 today, but let’s see how we get through the weekend. We don’t expect immediate results, but we want to keep making progress.”

Lance Stroll: “It was a positive first day. We’re making progress, but we’ve been a little cautious today because we’re understandably a little short on spare parts. Today feels like a step in the right direction, but we keep pushing for more. For one lap the car felt good, but I think there is more to the balance of the car. We’re going out tonight and examining the data and seeing where we can make improvements before we qualify tomorrow.”
