On Sunday, Charles Leclerc will start the F1 Grand Prix from pole position at the Miami International Autodrome. The Ferrari driver set the fastest time in 1:28.796 and was unbeatable by teammate Carlos Sainz.

Max Verstappen put his rivals to the test, but due to a small moment in the last flying lap, the Dutchman was stuck in P3.

The first qualifying round started where after the first shelling in Q1 the times followed one another in quick succession. Carlos Sainz took the lead for the time being in a time of 1:30.858 ahead of Daniel Ricciardo. Charles Leclerc followed behind the McLaren driver followed by teammate Lando Norris.

Both Red Bull drivers had also started qualifying and Max Verstappen promptly took over P1 in a time of 1:30.235, his teammate Sergio Perez was second behind George Russell. Carlos Sainz had to see from P4 how Daniel Ricciardo stayed in the top 5.

With 8 minutes to go Sainz was able to take advantage of a little more grip and drove to the front of the field, but the Spaniard had to give in to his teammate Leclerc who was fastest in 1:29.474. Verstappen improved and closed behind the Monegask with a difference of 0.362 seconds.

In the closing stages of Q1, Tsunoda improved to P5, holding Russell behind. The Japanese dropped some positions, partly due to an improvement of Lewis Hamilton to P5 and Fernando Alonso to P6. Perez in turn also improved slightly and moved past Sainz.

Esteban Ocon did not qualify due to his crash in FP3 and was therefore automatically one of the dropouts from Q1. Drivers Nicholas Latifi, Alex Albon, Guanzy Zhou and Kevin Magnussen were also unable to advance to Q2.

The track was cleared for Q2 and Ferrari was ready to jump into action as was Haas driver Mick Schumacher. The German set the first time at 1:30.423 but was surpassed by Charles Leclerc. However, the Monegask was 0.025 seconds too slow against teammate Carlos Sainz. Max Verstappen, on the other hand, was in good shape and set the fastest time for the time being in 1:29.202. Perez followed his teammate with the second fastest time, Lewis Hamilton closed the top 5 at that moment.

While Leclerc improved to P1 in 1:29.130, Hamilton’s teammate, Briton George Russell, moved into P7 ahead of Valtteri Bottas. in the final phase Leclerc remained the fastest man ahead of Verstappen, however Lando Norris drove a fast lap and ended up in P3 at the expense of Perez in the final seconds. Carlos Sainz was able to go to Q3 with the fifth fastest time.

Mick Schumacher, Daniel Ricciardo, Sebastian Vettel, George Russell and Fernando Alonso ended qualifying due to lack of pace in Q2

The visors were closed and the drivers prepared for the battle for the best starting position for Sunday. Ferrari was the first on the track in the form of Charles Leclerc. The Monegask set fast sector times and wrote a time of 1:29.055 to his name, teammate Sainz followed in P2 but both fell short of Max Verstappen who scored 1:28.991 and drove to provisional pole position. Sergio Perez held on to P4 Valtteri Bottas behind him.

The second run was on with 5 minutes to go. Charles Leclerc scored 1:28.796 ahead of Carlos Sainz. Max Verstappen was unable to improve due to a small mistake and drove slowly over the track. The Dutchman was followed by teammate Sergio Perez on P4. The top 5 was closed by Valtteri Bottas who was ahead of Lewis Hamilton.
