The second free practice in the run-up to the Miami Grand Prix was concluded with the fastest time by Mercedes driver George Russell. At the Miami International Autodrome, the Briton was the fastest man in a time of 1:29.938.
Charles Leclerc could not match the time of the Mercedes driver while Sergio Perez scored the third fastest time. Max Verstappen did not set time due to technical problems with his RB18.
The signal went green for FP2 and the first cars came into action. The first times appeared on the board with Esteban Ocon the fastest in 1:32.906 ahead of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo. Valtteri Bottas was the one who would not drive for the time being, the Alfa Romeo team was still working on the car of the Finn. Bottas crashed in FP1 and suffered significant damage from contact with the wall.
By now Fernando Alonso’s teammate, Ocon, had passed to P1. The Spaniard had to give that position to his compatriot Carlos Sainz, who now had the fastest time in 1:31.463. The track was released with 30 minutes remaining in the session. At Red Bull, Verstappen was finally sent out, but he indicated that things were not going well yet.
