Sergio Perez was sent off by his team boss Christian Horner in the run-up to the first Miami Grand Prix. Max Verstappen’s teammate took a crazy road trip from New York to the Miami International Autodrome in Florida, USA
The 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship season has completed four races with reigning World Champion Max Verstappen currently second and teammate Pérez third overall as the paddock heads to Miami.
Oracle Red Bull Racing Road Trips have criss-crossed the globe from the US to the Netherlands, South Africa and the Czech Republic with Checo’s debut road trip in the championship-winning RB7 car.
With the city of Florida hosting the first race in America this weekend, Oracle Red Bull Racing’s “Race to Miami” finds a miscommunication between Pérez and team principal and CEO, Christian Horner, which sends Checo on a frenetic mission to get from New York City to Miami in just one day.
With the help of his pit crew, barefoot wakeboard legend Parks Bonifay and Byron Jones, the NFL corner of Miami Dolphins, Checo braves the streets of New York and then the swampy Everglades National Park to arrive at the Miami International Autodrome – the home of the Miami GP.
Pérez, from Guadalajara, said: “I was thrilled to be part of my first Red Bull road trip. I remember Daniel (former team driver Ricciardo) crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and I never thought I’d get the chance to become I think Miami is the perfect place for Formula 1 it’s a very nice city and there is a good energy there. The track looks great and I can’t wait to see all the fans there. Austin always feels like a home race to me and I think Miami will be the same.”
