The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine heads to the 2022 opener in Monza this weekend, and PREMA Racing will line up four cars at the legendary Italian venue

The team will rely on a diverse mix of drivers to approach the highly competitive series after achieving remarkable results in the 2021 final, also held at Monza.

Girl Power – Hamda Al Qubaisi switches to FRECA with PREMA Racing.

Two of the drivers, Paul Aron and Dino Beganovic, will return in the series. The 18-year-old Est, a Junior Driver for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, is entering his third consecutive season in the championship, aiming for a big break after taking his first wins last season.

Dino Beganovic, 18, from the Ferrari Driver Academy, returns for his second FRECA season. After taking his first Formula Regional win in the Asian series, he is now poised to continue with the positive momentum he had already experienced at the end of 2021.

Sebastian Montoya also had a brilliant run in the Formula Regional Asian Championship at the start of the season. The Colombian-American, who grew up from Formula 4, proved to be a quick learner, with three poles and two wins in the three events in which he competed.

Hamda Al Qubaisi, who is also a Formula 4 player, will continue to climb her learning curve as she approaches the challenging transition to the Formula Regional environment.

As demonstrated in collective testing at the beginning of the month, the FRECA package has not become less competitive, covering the bulk of the 37-car package in less than a second.

The series will retain its format for 2021 with two qualifying sessions and two races without a reverse grid, but will introduce a push-to-pass system to temporarily increase the car’s power and provide additional overtaking opportunities.

Rene Rosin – Team Principal: “We are looking forward to be back in this really challenging championship. The tests went well, but the sessions showed how tight the field is, so we know that every detail can make a difference and the preparation has to be perfect, even if we finish 2021 with a high mark.” We have a good mix of drivers with Paul returning for his third year in the series, Dino for his second and Sebastian making his debut after impressing in the Emirates and Hamda. Hopefully we can do everything right and be competitive right away.”
