FIA Formula 2 feature race Imola leaves Trident scoreless

2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship Trident Imola

The FIA Formula 2 Championship Feature Race near Imola did not yield the desired result for Trident drivers Richard Verschoor and Calan Williams.

Verschoor and Williams were unable to score points at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. Due to the low grid positions, this was impossible for the drivers to overcome.

The main race that closed the third round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at Imola did not satisfy the Trident Motorsport drivers as they were unable to score points in the final race of the weekend. Richard Verschoor, who started from P19 on the grid, started the race with the Prime tires and was not helped by the dynamics of the event, with a Safety-Car situation as the drivers with the opposite strategy had their pit stop window .

Australian Calan Williams ran into the same problem because he followed the same strategy as his team-mate, and he ended up in the same punishable situation. During the feature race, both Trident Motorsport drivers showed solid pace but were unable to recover: multiple trains carrying cars on DRS formed, leaving no real attacking opportunities. The Trident Motorsport cars had a number of laps P8 with Verschoor and P9 with Williams, but when they finally came back to the pit lane for the tire change, they came out of the top ten in P15 and P16 respectively. Formula 2 is now taking a month-long break, with the fourth round of the year scheduled for May 20-22 in Montmelò.

Giacomo Ricci, team manager: “Today’s race gave us little satisfaction. The results were determined by the negative qualifying session, which forced Verschoor and Williams to start from row 10 on the starting grid. In addition, the strategy of starting with both drivers on Prime compound tires did not reward us as a Safety-Car situation in the early stages favored the drivers who started on the softer compound. Even in today’s race there was very little overtaking on the track and only those who guessed the right strategy managed to recover.”
