Campos Racing prepares for round 3 of FIA F3 on home soil

F3 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship Campos Racing F1

The FIA Formula 3 Championship will usher in another vibrant chapter of the 2022 F3 season this weekend, as Campos Racing will contest their home round at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

It will be a very important appointment on the calendar as the Spain-based race team will be determined to deliver a result to celebrate for their home fans. By the way, two of their three drivers are also Spaniards, David Vidales and Pepe Martí, and they will both be looking for the highlight of their season in Barcelona. Martí, who was born a few kilometers from the “Circuit”, repeats Vidales and American Hunter Yeany at the wheel of Campos Racing’s halo-shod Dallara F3 cars.

Vidales, Campos Racing’s most experienced driver in the series, regularly scores points. The Spaniard finished eighth and tenth at F3’s season opener in Bahrain and his performance was also outstanding at Imola. Vidales started at the back of the field both days, finishing 11th in Saturday’s sprint race and 8th in Sunday’s feature race, overtaking no fewer than 20 cars. Martí and Yeany, both from the Formula 4 based racing series, will have a clear goal this weekend: take another step forward and score points. At Imola, both talents took podium places in difficult damp conditions.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is a very traditional venue on the calendar and a classic place to test, meaning a single tenth will play a huge role given the small gaps at the top. The Catalan circuit has an undulating layout and is very technical from the driver’s point of view. In addition, thanks to the medium to high speed corners, the braking sections are very demanding at the same time. Due to the high temperatures and abrasive asphalt, all drivers will have to deal with tire wear and degradation.

Spanish Campos Racing aims for podium during F1 Grand Prix weekend

Both free practice and qualifying will take place on Friday at 09.30 and 15.30 respectively. The sprint race on Saturday is scheduled for 11 a.m. and the main race on Sunday will take place at 10.05 a.m. All times are CET.

Adrián Campos (Team Boss Campos Racing): “We are approaching our home round very motivated, especially as we also have two Spanish drivers on board this season. In terms of performance, we expect a strong weekend. Our aim is to extend our podium streak in F2 and, if possible, achieve a first podium result in F3, proving that we are a competitive racing team at the top.”

David Vidales (Campos Racing Driver in FIA Formula 3): “Finally racing week again! I can’t wait to jump in the car on Friday, it’s always special to race in the home GP. The team has been working really hard since the last race, so I’m really looking forward to this weekend.”

Hunter Yeany (Campos Racing Driver in FIA Formula 3): “I am really looking forward to this weekend as it will be a very special race for the team as it is our home track. I think we had a pretty strong pace out of the test, so we’re going to try and take advantage of that this weekend! †

Pepe Martí (Campos Racing Driver in FIA Formula 3): “I am very excited to race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, it is the track where I saw my first F1 races and which I have fond memories of. I can’t wait to get started because I think this could be a positive race weekend for us, given the pace we had in Imola and how we performed in the test. I hope we can continue in this upward trend and get more and more comfortable with the car with each lap.”
