PREMA Racing ready for Italian Formula 4 Championship opener

F4 2022 Italian Formula 4 championship Prema Imola

PREMA Racing will be ready for the opening round of the Italian Formula 4 Championship in Imola this weekend. The team has been racing in the series since it first appeared on the motorsports scene, and is excited to be back for the first chapter of its new era, with brand new cars.

The PREMA camp will consist of five drivers, all coming from positive results in the German F4 championship opener at Spa-Francorchamps.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Rafael Camara took the favorite status with victories in Belgium. Both the Italian and the Brazilian want to start the Italian season in the same positive way, but will also face strong competitors, starting with their teammates.

Conrad Laursen will be the most experienced of the bunch as he enters his second season in the championship. After claiming solid results in Belgium. On the other hand, F4 UAE Champion Charlie Wurz will return to the series F4 started before him. However, the Austrian never ran at Imola last season, so he makes his debut on Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.

Like Camara, Australian James Wharton will make his first European start after a season of victories in the UAE. The weather may come as an added variable and a valuable learning experience as rain is forecast for the weekend.

Angelo Rosin – Team Principal: “It’s great to be back in the Italian Formula 4 Championship. We have deep roots in this series and it is a perfect testing ground for our young drivers. We have achieved impressive results during our 2022 F4 debut at Spa-Francorchamps, in the German Championship”, and we want to translate that potential into our home championship as well. Imola is a difficult place to start, especially with the predictions we expect and with a completely new car. However, we have five promising and competitive drivers who have performed remarkably in their first appearances of the year.”
